There’s more to Thailand than its dazzling culture, warm climate, ornate temples, and beautiful beaches and fresh coconuts. Bangkok concrete jungle can surprise you every passing year and boasts a calendar full of activities that suit all interests. Modern luxury shopping malls, state-of-the-art theatres, and incredible entertainment venues are right around every corner. There are plenty of delicious restaurants and food stalls to sample and choose, or order home delivery from anywhere to your home cheaply.

For expat couples, living in Thailand can quantify for a better overall quality of life. Dining out in exquisite restaurants is a normal way of life, therefore date nights are always on the calendar. The beaches and other relaxing exotic destinations are a few hours drive by car or plane. Weekends can be spent shopping in weekend markets and café hopping.

For expat families that are looking to relocate to Thailand, family-friendly activities and destinations are various, from underwater aquariums, public parks, indoor playgrounds, water parks, and so much more. In-city housing rentals are competitive and value-for-money, ranging from duplexes, houses, or spacious condominiums. Nannies and childcare are plentiful to choose from to take care of your loved ones (however choose wisely). Private international schools offer top quality Western education programs. Expat families can even splurge on having a driver, starting at a monthly cost of just few hundred dollars, Family life in Thailand centres around great food, and you’ll never run out of music-laden, family-fun Western or authentic Thai restaurants to dine in.

There’s no such thing as free healthcare in Thailand for expats. International health insurance policies can assure that you and your family will be cared for at world-class, English-speaking hospitals and its amazing hospitality.

Thailand’s a land of opportunities for those who sees it. And those that do see it, fall in love with Thailand and its easy-living lifestyle.

The expats community are mostly based in Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Hua Hin, Pattaya, and in the Southern Islands such as Koh Tao, Koh Samui, and Krabi.

Thailand Visas for Expats Living in Thailand

There are different types of visas for foreigners to stay in Thailand. For short term visas, travelers will receive the normal tourist visa (30/60/90 days tourist visa) when visiting Thailand. Those looking to do internship or Thai courses will receive the education visa (Non-immigrant visa ‘ED’). For expats looking for long term residency, there are visa solutions as per following:

Expats who are looking to work in Thailand must apply for a Non-Immigrant Visa at the Royal Thai Embassies or Royal Thai Consulates-General nearest to you.  You must be granted a work permit before starting work. The visa fee is 2,000 Baht for single-entry with three-month validity and 5,000 Baht for multiple entries with one-year validity. An annual renewal is required with a list of documentations you’ll need to show.

Three-Months Non-Immigrant Visa “B” (Business only)

Expats visiting Thailand for business purposes may apply for a three-months Non-Immigrant Visa “B”, allowing them to visit Thailand as often as required and can remain in Thailand.  This type of visa may be issued to businessmen for multiple-entries.  It is not applicable to family members.

Non-Immigrant Visa “O-A” (Retirement)

This type of visa may be issued to applicants aged 50 years and considering to retire and reside in Thailand for a period not exceeding 1 year without the intention of working. Employment of any kind is strictly prohibited.
